Looking to spice up your video projects with creative text? Fonts can be used to emphasize a feeling or style, such as highlighting a modern, grungy or romantic mood. Bulking up your font collection is a great way to provide clients with a unique look for their videos. The following websites provide free fonts that break away from the traditional ones that come bundled with your computer. Be sure to check the usage / licensing restrictions on each site (however, many of these fonts are free for commercial use). Most of the fonts at the websites below will work in editing applications such as Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere and AVID.

DaFont

DaFont has organized their fonts into easy to navigate categories like Script, Comic, Grunge and Handwritten. Office 2007 confirmation code generator. One of the site highlights is being able to type in custom text and see it previewed in different fonts before downloading. HUGE selection of PC and Mac compatible fonts.

Font Squirrel

Font Squirrel is one of the newest online, free font communities. They may not be the biggest collection online, but what they lack in selection they make up for ten fold in quality. Most all of these typefaces have full alphabet, numbers and symbols available. Also, ALL the fonts on Font Squirrel are 100% free for commercial use.

Font Diner

Font Diner has some of the best retro-specific fonts online. These fonts are great for emphasizing a vintage 1950’s or 60’s vibe. All of the fonts on Font Diner are available for Mac and PC. While you’re there check out some of their high quality pay for use fonts as well!

MyFonts

MyFonts lives up to it’s slogan, “The world’s largest collection of fonts,” but many of the fonts (and font sets) on the site are pay for use. Sort MyFonts to just show free font versions and you’ll find over 600 high quality free font downloads. The site is easily navigable and offers great tools such as a dynamic text preview that allows you to change size, color and see how the font would appear in different web browsers. Royalty Free Fonts For Machine

Need help installing fonts on your machine? Check out this how-to over at Font Stock that that gives the rundown for installing fonts on Mac and all Windows operating systems.

If you’re a Final Cut Pro user looking to build up your font library use Mac’s Font Book application. Although FCP does not have any real font organization tools within the program, you can use Font Book to organize your fonts into categories so you can quickly find them when you need them! Note, if you have Final Cut Pro open while installing a font you must restart the program for the font to show up in the FCP text generator. In order to have several fonts to choose from, I like to install several fonts before restarting FCP.
